According to both “Martha” and Tabetha herself, the authors are still paying for their own covers. The difference is that Tabetha now has them going directly to the artist. But I am forced to ask what else are they paying for?
Tabetha Jones claims that she is running Phoenix Fire Publishing differently from how she ran Mystic Press. She also claims to be a traditional publisher.
What I want to know is “What are you charging for in addition to the covers?”
Good publishers do not charge their writers for anything. They eat the cost of editing, covers, and promotions. Good publishers gamble on their authors making money. The author gets their money off the top.
She’s just trying to be slick so she can scam on her taxes the same way she scams on her contracts. Too bad that bullshit isn’t retroactive. She’s got (at least) a year of unregistered business, (probably) unreported, illegally gained income and employees to explain to the IRS.
Do they allow camcorders at audits? I’d LOVE to see this.
Me too. I think that dear Tabby-puss is going to get her comeuppance from the gov.
Just to underline your observation, Janrae – in over fifty years of professional publication I have never been asked to pay an artist to illustrate my work, and I don’t know any writer who has. Something is very wrong here (as if I needed to say).
Good publishers don’t have to cajole their family friend lawyers into doing the job of a CPA for them (for free), the way Tabetha claims she is doing. She also conveniently claims she “didn’t leave a trail.”
She left a trail, all right. And she still is. Every time she posts some new self-righteous crock of shit, it leads directly back to her illegal activities with Mystic Press. She doesn’t realize it (obviously) but the stupid cow is also unwittingly exposing the illegal ways that she’s still running things. Good job, Tab. Keep pounding those nails.
