I learned a couple of days ago that I can use LSI to publish ebooks without being required to put out a print edition at the same time.  This means that I can therefore use LSI in a more cost efficient way that will give me greater distribution options than going lulu.

And the costs saved by going with LSI for ebooks should allow me to offset the expense of doing a few print volumes through LSI.

I may still use lulu for a few things, but not all of the print volumes.

The one drawback to LSI is that they only publish those ebooks in adobe format.  That’s not a popular format.

My goal is still to get the 20 books out that I will need to have ready when I go to Fictionwise.  Fictionwise issues books in several popular formats at the same time.  This contributes to the fact that they are still the largest place to sell and make a profit on them.

Because we lost our financing because of the current economic downturn,  we are taking our books to lulu until I can meet Fictionwise’s minimum requirements.

Hopefully we will be able to do this before the end of next year.  We have eight books coming out in the spring, including one by award winning author, Lyn McConchie.

I have indefinitely suspended Flashing Swords magazine, although we will be bringing out a line of fantasy novels under that imprint.

Fictionwise is where the money is for the small press.  More and more people who enjoy reading voraciously are turning to ebooks because of the lower cost of them.

I will keep you all supplied with information concerning this.

As many of you may know, Daverana’s  layout man, Tim Willard, is the author of an RPG called Year of the Zombie.  The newest installment is out and RPGNow.com just gave it a rave review.

Fictionwise now has a larger quota to be met in order for them to carry our books. Daverana needs the money that can be made through the distribution network at Fictionwise.

They now want 25 titles and at least 5 previously published authors. The only way that I can meet their requirements to carry our books is to include my own. By including my books I can offer Fictionwise fifteen novels right off the bat. I need ten more to make it all work out.

I am close to having those ten ready and hope to have them by the end of the year as I have them in the editorial process already.

In posts about my family the names go like this: Mama = Grandmother Papa = Grandfather Mickey = biological mother, Mama's daughter.

About the memoir posts

I always viewed sympathy as a band aid. I feel that pity obscures matters. I would rather be known for my victories, than for my defeats. I would rather be known for writing well, than for having had a tough life. If there is any ultimate point to my memoir posts, it’s that no matter how hard life gets, if you hang tough, you get through it. I think that Norman Spinrad said it best in Bug Jack Barron “The only way out is through.”
