Word count for The Loyalty of Wolves

Zokutou word meterZokutou word meter
40,125 / 100,000

Progressing slower than usual, but not too bad. I just keep tossing parts of it out and rethinking matters.

I have a bunch of other projects being worked on as well, but that’s the only word count that makes a difference right now.

Meanwhile I need to tend to my (as diagnosed by a limp-wristed poofter named Dagstine) internet psychosis, and get a lot more work done since it’s clear I simply can’t manage to write a blog post every two hours despite my best efforts.

And an aside to Mike Brendan:

According to “God’s Warriors” by Helen Nicholson and David Nicolle, the Knights Templars did not sleep in their armor.

I’ve known at least one two people from the SCA to prove that it’s possible to sleep in heavier armor (and I could be wrong, but Steve Jackson might have been involved in that), but I wonder if that might be more the exception and not the rule.

If nothing else it proves that it’s possible. Knowing how uncomfortable my own armor gets after about … oh … half an hour, I’m more than happy to strip the damn thing off before collapsing onto my air mattress.

It is a great book. Apparently the inclination of the times was to sleep nude. So the Templars instituted a rule that you had to sleep in trousers and a shirt. LOL

It was definitely possible to sleep in it when needed. Eleanor of Acquitane’s first husband managed to sleep in a tree in armor with some of his knights standing guard beneath it after their army was scattered by the saracens.

It would not have been scattered if Eleanor had not taken her share of the troops and chased after a body of saracens who were acting as a distraction to led part of the army away.

Might be easier to wear some armour, such as mail, and so take less time to put the rest on.
But being in a state of readiness does wear on the mind and make sleep hard even if comfortable.
