My favorite bad reviews

They aren’t of my books, but they do reveal some treasured wit.  Especially when the books given those bad reviews are now more famous than the reviewer.  I’m talking about Dorothy Parker.  There are some real jewels in this quotations page on wikipedia.

I think that reading them helps to remind me that bad reviews and bad opinions should simply be taken in stride and moved on from with a shake of the head and a shrug.

I’m a big fan of the estimable Mrs. Parker. The collection of her Constant Reader columns occupies an especially honored section of my bookshelves, right next to a couple of Robert Benchley’s books.

I have long adored her work and her wit. Many members of the Algonquin Round Table are either forgotten or have been overshadowed by other authors from the same period.

They are all, however, to my mind, worth reading
